Professional Drone Diagnostics & Testing

Most drone failures are not what they appear to be on the surface.

A gimbal that shakes might have a cold solder joint on the motor driver board. A drone that drifts might have a cracked IMU trace. An ESC that cuts out might have a marginal capacitor. Without lab equipment, these faults get missed — and the problem comes back.

Eden Drone Repairs has invested in professional-grade diagnostic tools specifically to find root causes, not just symptoms. Every repair that comes through our workshop goes through this process.

Our Diagnostic Equipment

JCU 858D Hot Air Rework Station Precision-temperature hot air for desoldering and reflowing circuit boards without thermal damage. Used for BGA chip reflow, ESC board repair, gimbal motor driver repair, and camera module work. Not a heat gun — a calibrated station with programmable temperature and airflow profiles.
5.5″ Digital LCD Microscope High-magnification inspection of PCB traces, solder joints, component pads, and micro-connectors. Identifies cold joints, lifted pads, cracked traces, and corrosion that are invisible to the naked eye — and to standard magnifiers. Inspection results are photographed and included in your diagnostic report.
ESC / Servo Tester Direct functional testing of electronic speed controllers and servo motors outside the aircraft. Verifies neutral position, full rotation range, response linearity, and detects motor winding faults, bearing wear, and cogging. Eliminates guesswork when diagnosing motor and ESC issues.
Digital Multimeter & Oscilloscope Signal-level diagnosis of power rails, communication buses, and sensor outputs. Used for identifying voltage sag under load, UART and SPI bus faults on flight controllers, and power distribution board failures.

What the Diagnostic Report Covers

Every inspection produces a written report delivered to you within 3 working days of the inspection fee being paid. The report includes:

  • Physical damage assessment — all visible mechanical faults documented with photographs
  • Electrical diagnostic results — power system, ESC, motor, and sensor testing outcomes
  • PCB inspection findings — microscope inspection results for mainboard, ESC stack, and gimbal boards
  • Firmware and software status — flight controller health, sensor calibration status, error logs
  • Root cause identification — what actually caused the fault, not just what is broken
  • Repair recommendation — what needs replacing, what can be repaired, what is a risk if left
  • Cost estimate — repair quote broken down by component and labour
The diagnostic report is yours regardless of whether you proceed with the repair. If you decide to take the drone elsewhere or handle it yourself, you leave with a full written assessment of what is wrong.

Pre-Purchase Drone Inspection

Buying a second-hand drone — especially a commercial or agricultural platform — without an independent inspection is a significant financial risk. We offer pre-purchase inspections for buyers who want to verify the condition of a unit before committing.

The pre-purchase inspection follows the same process as a standard diagnostic: the seller ships the drone to us (or the buyer arranges courier), we inspect and report, and the buyer receives a full written assessment before any money changes hands.

This service is particularly relevant for DJI Agras, Matrice, and Phantom 4 RTK units — platforms where second-hand prices are significant.

Why Independent Diagnostics Matter

DJI’s own service process requires shipping your drone internationally with weeks of lead time and no guarantee of a competitive repair cost. A local independent diagnostic gives you:

  • A written assessment in 3 working days — not 3 weeks
  • Root cause identification before you authorise any spend
  • A second opinion if DJI has already quoted you a replacement rather than a repair
  • Documentation for insurance claims — surveyor-quality written report
  • Guidance on whether a repair is economically viable vs. replacement
Note: Eden Drone Repairs is an independent repair workshop. We are not a DJI Authorised Service Centre — which means we are not constrained to DJI’s official repair pricing or replacement-only policies. We fix what can be fixed.
